History

Cross Point Bible Fellowship is the result of two churches joining together to form one new church in June 2009.  Vienna Baptist Church was started in 1965 and Walnut Creek Community Church was started in 2001.  In the spring of 2009, both churches became convinced that God was leading them to become one.

Vienna Baptist Church: On August 8, 1965 the Lord led a group of families to seek to organize a local Baptist church in the Vienna community.  The first meeting places were houses, the men's shelter off of Warren-Sharon Rd. (currently family services of the Warren Rescue Mission), and the Mathews school building.

Before long, a piece of choice real estate became available at the corner of Routes 193 and 82.  The owner had an opportunity to sell the land to a car dealership for more money but desired that a church be on that piece of land.  So she decided to sell the property for considerably less money.  Her only desire was that it would never be used for a bar.

The current building was built in 1970 and the church has had six pastors, with Pastor Odor the founding pastor returning to serve a second time.  In addition to Pastor Odor, the other pastors were Pastors Bosko, Dandinak, McCullough, Walton, and McCune.

Walnut Creek Community Church: Walnut Creek Community Church began as a God-given dream in the heart and life of Pastor Kory Tedrick and his wife Toni in April 2000.  By June that year, they had moved from western Minnesota to Cortland, Ohio, trusting that God would bring the pieces and the people together to fulfill the vision of creating a church that meets people where they are and helps them to become all that God intends them to be.  One of those important pieces was the help of the Mideast Baptist Conference (now Converge MidAtlantic, with whom Cross Point remains affiliated).

On Easter Sunday 2001, Walnut Creek’s grand opening service was held in Lakeview High School.  In December 2004, in order to move toward the goal of being a church accessible to people throughout eastern Trumbull County, Walnut Creek began meeting at the USA Cinema near the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

The following summer, Brian Main joined Kory as a part-time associate pastor.  In the summer of 2007, Kory and Toni responded to God’s call to move to suburban Saint Louis in order to start another new church. Walnut Creek then called Brian to become the new full-time pastor upon Kory’s departure.
